Can anyone lead me to sources for NYC price histories from the late 70s -- early 80s.
Thanks,
Paul

Price histories of what? Consumer goods? Condos and coops? Something else?
Thanks for clarifying...yes, consumer goods. More specifically, produce or any other items found at the Union Square Greenmarket...
Two quite distinct possibilities:
US Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index:
http://www.bls.gov/cpi/
They list prices and ratios for individual and baskets of consumer goods over time for different categories (urban vs rural areas) and cities.

From the library's database page - New York Times 1851-2003 Full Image database.
Unlike the text databases that just index the articles, this one includes everything in the paper - the weather, sports scores, obituaries, classifieds, tv listings and - advertisements. You may find an ad for the market or a grocery store listing sales and prices for that particular day / week.

FYI - An example from the NYT Image Database for Greenmarket prices - search for an article entitled "Best Buys" by Patricia Wells published on 11/8/1978.

Thanks a million, Frank
